I have been contemplating the significance of Satan in our collective consciousness.
While the concept of an external devil figure may provide ‘comfort’ and explanations for evil, it also enables us to evade facing the darkness that exists within our own hearts.
Satan As Scapegoat
Satan serves as a convenient scapegoat, allowing us to blame him for temptation and sin, thus absolving ourselves of responsibility. This way, we can direct our efforts towards resisting him externally, rather than confronting the internal conflicts. The duality of the cosmic narrative of good versus evil is emotionally appealing to us.
True Source Of Evil
But in doing so, we ignore the true source of evil – the parts of ourselves we don’t want to face: greed, apathy, hatred, etc. As long as we blame Satan for our failings, we lack the impetus to truly change and grow as people.
Ultimately, the real enemy lies within. Facing our own capacity for wrongdoing, rather than projecting it onto an external devil figure, is the first step toward overcoming evil – within and without. We have to claim responsibility for our own minds, hearts and actions.
Fixing the world starts with fixing ourselves.
The Real Enemy Is Inside
The real enemy isn’t Satan – it’s the parts of our nature we fail to confront honestly.
Reader: I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. Does focusing on Satan as the source of evil and temptation risk distracting us from facing our own darkness?
Let’s consider the five “I WILLS” of Lucifer as found in Isaiah 14:13- 14
“I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE HEIGHTS OF THE CLOUDS AND SHALL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH!”
Lucifer’s vision was not merely a quest for power and control but a deep-seated desire to transcend his current state and attain a level of divinity that rivaled that of the Almighty. He yearned to be more than just an angel, elevated to supreme authority and influence. He believed that he possessed the strength and wisdom to rule over all creation and saw himself as the rightful heir to the throne of Heaven. However, in his arrogance and pride, he failed to recognize that true power and greatness come not from domination and control but from humility and service. His misguided ambition ultimately led to his downfall, as he was cast out of Heaven and condemned to eternal damnation.
Exodus 13:21-22 says,
“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people”.
I WILL EXALT MY THRONE ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD.
Lucifer’s fall from grace is a cautionary tale of the dangers of pride and ambition. Even in the presence of God’s throne, Lucifer was not satisfied with his position and longed for more power and authority. His desire to rule over all the angels was a manifestation of his insatiable thirst for greatness, a thirst that could never be quenched.
Lucifer’s desire to shine brighter than all the other stars is a metaphor for the human desire for recognition and validation. We often seek external validation to feel worthy and necessary, but true fulfillment can only come from within. When our ego drives us, we become blind to the beauty and wonder of the world around us, and our light dims.
I WILL SIT ALSO UPON THE MOUNT OF THE CONGREGATION.
The dark forces of the universe were at work as Satan yearned to ascend to the highest throne, seeking to reign supreme over all the celestial beings. His insatiable desire for power and control was fueled by a deep-seated need to be worshipped and adored, the object of all reverence and devotion. His twisted ambition knew no bounds as he sought to become the ultimate idol, the one to whom all would bow down and pledge allegiance. But in his quest for supremacy, he lost sight of the trustworthy source of spiritual fulfillment and became consumed by his ego and vanity.
I WILL ASCEND ABOVE THE HEIGHTS OF THE CLOUDS.
The symbolism of “clouds” in the Bible is rich with meaning, representing the majesty and power of God. As we read in Matthew 24:30, the clouds will part and reveal the Son of Man coming in all His glory. This is a powerful image of the divine presence, a reminder of the awe-inspiring nature of God.
However, the story of Lucifer reminds us that even the most beautiful and powerful creatures can fall from grace. His desire for glory and adoration led him to rebel against God and seek his own path. This is a cautionary tale for all of us, a reminder that our pride and ego can lead us down a dangerous path.
Ultimately, the lesson of the clouds and the story of Lucifer is one of humility and surrender. We must recognize that all of our gifts and talents come from God and that our true purpose is to glorify Him, not ourselves. Only by submitting to His will can we find true fulfillment and joy.
I WILL BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH.
He yearned to transcend his mortal limitations and ascend to the divine realm, to stand on equal footing with the Almighty and assume the mantle of ultimate power and authority. His ambition was to break free from the chains of subservience and become a self-sufficient being, accountable to no higher authority. In his quest for absolute autonomy, he sought to overthrow the very foundations of creation and establish himself as the sole judge of destiny.
No matter how hard the Devil tries, he can never overpower the Lord and His authority.
Psalm 2:1-4, speaks of the nations’ rage against God and His anointed one but ultimately declares that God sits in the heavens and laughs at their futile attempts to oppose Him.
Those who seek to oppose God or align themselves with the Adversary will ultimately be defeated.
“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”
Deuteronomy 20:4
Scripture confirms that Satan is a very influential spiritual adversary who is given dominion over the power of the airwaves.
“in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.”
Ephesians 2:2
The Bible is clear that Satan is a mighty spiritual adversary of God, and has been given authority over the power of the air (airwaves).
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12
However, God is sovereign and ultimately has full command over all of Creation.
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
Colossians 1:16-17
Satan Prince Of The Air
As in Ephesians 2:2 : ruler of the kingdom of the air
Prince
Air
Airwaves are electromagnetic radiation that serves as a medium for transmitting information, including radio and television signals, over vast distances.
What Do Airwaves Have To Do With My Message?
The airwaves can be described as the spiritual realm, which is unseen but constantly present and active. Just as electromagnetic radiation travels through the air, the Holy Spirit moves and works in the spiritual realm, transmitting messages and guidance to those who are open to receiving them. And just as licenses are required to use the airwaves for broadcasting, we must seek permission and advice from God before using our spiritual gifts and resources to serve others and spread His message.
Satan’s Influence
Satan has a significant influence over the spiritual atmosphere that surrounds us. Just as airwaves transmit information, Satan can use his power to share negative thoughts, emotions, and temptations with people.
We Must Remain Grounded
As believers, we must be aware of the spiritual atmosphere around us and guard ourselves against the negative influences that Satan may try to transmit through the air. We do this by staying grounded in God’s word, praying for protection, and surrounding ourselves with other believers who will encourage and uplift us.
Airwaves are a valuable aid for transferring information; we must be mindful of the spiritual realm and the influence that Satan, the Prince of the air, has been given, by God, over it.
We must keep in mind: The Lord has complete control over Satan’s control over the airwaves, and nothing that Satan does can change that. Satan may attempt to use these airwaves to deceive and manipulate, but the Lord will always be the one with the ultimate authority, satan only does as the Lord wills.
The schemes of the enemy are nothing but mere pawns in the hands of the Almighty. Satan needs permission to act because he is not the master of his own fate, but rather a mere puppet in the grand scheme of things.
The flesh may revile at the thought of God’s complete authority, but it is a truth that cannot be denied.
God is the Lord of life and death, and everything in between. He owns the very air we breathe and is sovereign over everything in the heavens and the earth.
“For in him we live and move and have our being.”
Acts 17:28a
The Holy Scriptures teach us that the Almighty Creator is the Master of all existence, both the beginning and the end, and all that lies in between. He is the possessor of every breath we take, and His dominion extends over all the celestial and terrestrial realms.
Psalm 33:10,11 proves that people may believe in their own free will, but their plans are immediately nullified by the only one with true free will – the sovereign God. He has ordained beforehand the actions of men and planned every outcome, paving every step and calculating every second, whether physical or spiritual.
GOD ORDAINED PILOT
In the divine plan, God appointed Pilate to judge the Son, and God allowed adversaries to rise against his chosen ones. While God does not author sin, he does permit evil to occur through secondary causes to fulfill His divine purposes and bring glory to His name.
In short, Satan may think he’s in control, but he’s just a pawn in the hands of the Almighty.
