The concept of free will has sparked much debate within the Christian community, yet we must acknowledge that our faith was not born of our own volition. Rather, it was through the divine power of Jesus Christ, the Founder and Perfecter of our faith, that we were able to establish a connection with the divine. He is the one who initiates and builds our faith, and holds complete control over it. We, as mere mortals, are not capable of managing or establishing our own faith. It is only through the Will of The Father that we are able to be established in Him. The sovereignty of Jesus is evident in the fact that God prepared us beforehand to have faith and willed us to be His workmanship. Our salvation through faith is not of our own doing, but a gift from God. We were created in Christ Jesus for good works that God had already prepared for us to walk in. Therefore, let us fix our gaze upon Jesus, the Founder and Perfecter of our faith, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him and now sits at the right hand of the throne of God.
Bible
Additionally, in John 6:44, Jesus says, “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.” This shows that it is not solely up to our own free will to come to faith in Jesus, but rather it is God who draws us to Him.
Furthermore, in Romans 9:16, it says, “So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.” This verse emphasizes that our salvation and faith is not dependent on our own will or effort, but rather it is solely dependent on God’s mercy and grace.
Overall, while there may be some debate and controversy surrounding the concept of free will in Christianity, there is biblical evidence that supports the idea that our faith and salvation is not solely dependent on our own free will, but rather it is ultimately dependent on God’s sovereignty and grace.
Workmanship
The Biblical definition of workmanship goes beyond mere manual labor and meticulous design. It speaks of the power to produce an outcome, the cooperativeness of creation, and the meticulous execution of a plan. And we, as God’s people, are His workmanship. He operates, designs, and produces our faith by the power of His grace. We cannot produce our own faith, for it is a gift that comes from God alone. His grace is freely given, not earned by our own efforts or righteousness.
Through the perfect faith of Jesus Christ, we are justified and made righteous. It is not our own faith that saves us, but the faith of Jesus Christ that is transferred to us as a gift. We cannot manipulate or control this gift, for it is given freely and without compensation. We are saved by His grace alone, and it is only through Him that we can follow the will of His Father.
Therefore, let us not boast in our own works or efforts, but in the gift of faith that has been freely given to us. Let us trust in the sovereignty of God and His perfect plan for our lives, knowing that He alone can change the Book of Remembrance. And let us give thanks for the gift of grace that has justified us and made us righteous in His sight.
