How to Rejoice in Suffering

We understand “why” we should rejoice in suffering, but the question is:

How can we rejoice in suffering?

We must think upon the following list of 6️⃣ suggestions found mostly in the Book of James. We need to think about these things.

1️⃣ Ask God for Wisdom, in Faith. That’s it.

Ask without doubt. Trust Him, He’s trustworthy. If we doubt, we can expect nothing from the Lord. Anyone who asks for Wisdom in Faith will receive Wisdom.

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Romans 5:1-5

2️⃣ Remain steadfast under trials by obsessing over God. Have Him consume your mind. Do not be discouraged when you “fail”, Paradoxically, failure is how we win. We will become as David, the Psalmist said:

“My heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.”.

Of Jesus it was Spoken:

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Isaiah 53:3

3️⃣ Know what you believe & why you believe it. As not to be wavering.

“Tossed back and forth, blown here and there by every wind of Doctrine”

Ephesians 4:14

Listen for false teaching. Engage with skeptics, discover differences, listen to opposing viewpoints, search for understanding. Love the Truth and stand by the truth.

Of Jesus:

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec. Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Hebrews 5:8—>

4️⃣ Pay attention to your desires; acknowledge what your “wants” are. We remain stagnant when we avoid facing our shameful desires. Repressing sin is not righteous, its cowardice, & it keeps sin in the dark.

ASK YOURSELF & WRITE IT DOWN:

What do you think about most often when your mind wanders?

What are your thoughts? What do you crave? What do you avoid?

Laying ourselves bare forGod is a an excellent discipline to habituate, as you deliberately humiliate yourself, Through the shame, He humbles you., & your heart is revealed.

5️⃣ Don’t get over your trials. Do not rush through them or pass them by. Rejoice in them. The Valleys where our faith is tested is fertile ground for steadfastness. But if my lesson isn’t complete I will continue to face the same trial again and again.

Feel it. Be real, obsess on the Lord, the Lord is the reason for our Joy.

Obscurity, indeed, is painful to the mind as well as to the eye ; but to bring light from obscurity, by whatever labour, must needs to be delightful and rejoicing.

 Oxford University Press, 1973, §6:

6️⃣ Give thanks and praises to GOD. God gives me endurance and steadfastness. Be greatful and Praise Jesus at all times, as He already endured the penalty of my sins, but the trials are for my sanctification, because He loves me. SO praise Him constantly.

  • Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name. Hebrews 13:15
  • “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. … Daniel 2:20 20

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

John 4:24 –

“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 5:11

Please Remember: “Consider it pure joy” does NOT mean: Be happy when bad things happen. If you aren’t Happy, the worst thing to do is pretend that you are. Take it to God, Tell Him everything. He will hear you.
