Cheap Talk

Talk is cheap only when it emanates from a mind lacking depth…

The Value of Speech

The value of speech lies in the sincerity and integrity of the speaker, not just in the act of speaking itself.

It’s the meaning behind the words that truly matters.

“Though their speech is charming, do not believe them, for seven abominations fill their hearts.”

Proverbs 26:25

Speaking with integrity and honesty is essential.

Words carry weight when spoken from a place of truth.

It’s about aligning your speech with noble principles, rather than succumbing to selfish motives or negative behaviors like dishonesty, gossiping, or slander.

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Proverbs 18:21

Words without truth are as hollow as the soul that speaks them.

It is through consistent alignment of words with truth and backed by actions that they become treasures akin to fine gold, reflecting a genuine appreciation for one’s own soul and God’s kingdom.

The worth of words is measured not by their quantity but by their quality and the authenticity of the speaker’s intentions.

Words Serve ONE of Two  Kingdoms

The first is dominated by insincerity, filled with empty flattery and deceit—a realm shrouded in darkness.

The second is inhabited by those who value authenticity and honesty.

Unnoticed Liars

In a society that excessively values superficial praise, there are individuals who often go unnoticed as liars.

This is because the majority of people have been conditioned to believe that this behavior is normal.

Genuine honesty may be misinterpreted as impolite or unkind in such a culture, which seems unaware of its entanglement in insincere flattery and shallow relationships.

Opposition to Authenticity

Authenticity faces opposition in this setting because it doesn’t cater to the superficial expectations and norms prevalent in society.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

- Romans 12:2
"Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life." - John 12:25

How God Views your Words:

Proverbs 18:21 –

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Matthew 12:36-37 –

“But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Matthew 12:36-37 states,

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit,” and Matthew 15:11, which states, “What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”

Words are so important, that we are going to give an account of what we say when we stand before the Lord Jesus Christ.

The apostle Paul wrote,

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

The Greek word used for “unwholesome talk” in Scripture is translated to  “rotten” or “foul.”

Paul continues: “. . . but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

This is reminiscent of Paul’s words to the Colossians:

“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone”

Colossians 4:6

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
